About this coffee
Red Currant, our new washed Kenyan coffee from Ichuga Station in Nyeri.
Bright, clean, this is the kind of filter coffee that shows exactly why Kenyan coffees have such a strong reputation. Grown at 1,700 metres above sea level in Nyeri’s red volcanic soil, this AA lot is big and juicy with notes of red currant, ruby grapefruits, hibiscus.
Ichuga Station is one of five factories owned and operated by Kiama Farmer Cooperative Society near Karatina, Central Kenya. The cooperative was founded in 1996 and brings together smallholder farmers from the area, many working coffee gardens of around half a hectare to two hectares.
Ripe cherry is selectively handpicked, sorted at intake, pulped, fermented, washed and dried on raised beds. The parchment is turned regularly while drying and covered during the hottest part of the day and overnight to protect quality.
Kenyan Master Angel says "berry sweetness and a bright citrus finish. Structured, vibrant and unmistakably Kenyan"
